Cherai Beach, a picturesque beach, located on the north-end of the Vypeen Island is ideal for swimming. Lined with luscious green coconut groves and paddy fields, this sandy beach is a unique combination of the sea and the backwaters, studded with seashells of various hues and shapes. Dolphines are occasionally seen here. Thick coconut groves and Chinese fishing nets on the waterfront are added attractions.
The main attraction of Cherai beach is, it is a swimming friendly beach and one can swimm up to 20 meters inside the beach,where the waves are not strong and shallow.The unique cherai Beach combines backwaters and beach. Cherai Beach Festival Falls on every December in a year.Cultural entertainments and new year programmes are major highlights of the days.

Cherai is just 15 minutes drive from North Paravur (4km). It can be approached from Ernakulam either by taking a ferry to Vypeen island which is 24 km away (40 minutes by bus) from Cherai or taking the longer road route via Edappally to North Paravur and from there to Cherai, a distance of about 25km.
