SATHRAM
The word Sathram means a resting place in Malayalam. The place called Sathram in Thekkady was traditionally used by pilgrims and devotees of Lord Ayappan on their way to the Sabarimala Temple. A jeep trail runs along the edge of the Periyar Tiger Reserve and guest can take a guided tour on one of these jeeps. There are numerous mounds that give the guests a breath taking view of the entire valley .
PARUNTHUMPARA
The word ‘parunth’ in the local language means Eagle and ‘para’ means rock. It is called Parunthumpara or eagle rock because of a large area around the place is like an eagle. It is 6 km from Peermade, 25 km from Thekkady & 3 km From National Highway 220.This area provides a bird’s eye view of an endless stretch of green forest land and low-lying areas.
PANCHALIMEDU
Panchalimedu is one of the beautiful hill stations in the Idukki district of Kerala, God’s Own Country. The cool climate and refreshing breeze is a specialty here. The place offers an ethereal atmosphere. This place has an enchanting set of hills, which refreshes the body and mind. From this top, Sabarimala ‘Makarajyothi’ can be seen.
ANJURULI
Anjuruli is famous for the waterfall. The snowy white gush of waters through the forest green is a sight to dream. This gushing water that comes from Erattayar River is stored here for the Idukki hydro-electric project. Anjuruli is about 5 km from Labbakkandom settlement of the Periyar Lake.Water passes through this tunnel and drains into the lake. The adventurous ones can walk into the tunnel during summer although it is dangerous.
IDUKKI DAM
The Idukki Dam is a double curvature arch dam constructed across the Periyar River in a narrow gorge between two granite hills Kuravan and Kurathi in kerala This dam was constructed along with two other dams at Cheruthoni and Kulamavu. Together, the three dams have created an artificial lake. The stored water is used to produce electricity at the Moolamattom Power house, which is located inside nearby rocky caves.
OTTAKATHALAMEDU
Ottakathalamedu is situated about 4 km from Thekkady at an altitude of 1300 metres above sea level, which provides an excellent view that includes Kumily town, the Periyar National Park and even the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu State.A visit to Periyar Ottakathalamedu can also be combined with other tourist attractions across the city. With its delectable cuisines, and opportunities to explore the surrounding areas.
GRAPE FARM CUMBUM
The Cumbum Valley in the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu is the one most fertile valleys in south India, The valley includes lands between Thekkadi Hills, Varusanadu Hills, and Kodaikanal. This is one of the few places in Tamil Nadu producing grapes. Guests are driven to a grape farm where they can observe and participate in the many processes that go into the cultivation of grapes.
