Ilaveezhapoonchira is located in Kottayam district, spread over thousands of acres. This distinct trekking spot of Kottayam district gives a seductive overview of its valleys. It is surrounded by three enthralling top hill rocks – Mankunnu, Thonippara and Kodayathoormala. Monsoon showers profoundly feed the lakes and small streams which makes this as apt weekend destination .
Ilaveezhapoonchira means “flower’s lake where leaves do not fall”. This is because of the absence of trees over there or due to the powerful wind that carries everything out of this place. This place has an epic connection too. The Pandavas, heroes of Mahabharata visited this place , during their incognito life; they stayed here for some time. While Panchali used to come for her daily bath in a lake near there, her charming beauty tempted Devas . This made Devendra to cover the lake with flowers as barriers to prevent the awful intentions of Devas.
Ilaveezhapoonchira is famous for its sunrise/ sunset views and also a typical spot for trekking. This place is easily reachable from Thodupuzha.A DTPC rest house nearby offers comfortable accommodation.
